Maintaining protection against Covid-19: eligible groups called for spring vaccine

  • 4 min read

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is preparing to deliver over 10,000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccination to eligible patients at community clinics in the first week of its spring roll-out.

Eligible patients include anyone living in GGC who is aged 75 years and over on 30 June 2024 or is aged six months or over (by or on 31 March 2024) with a weakened immune system.

The community clinics will commence today (Monday, 8th April 2024), and eligible patients will receive, or will have already received, an invitation, with an appointment date and time, either by post, email, or text. These groups are urged to ensure that they have noted these appointment details and that they have the appropriate arrangements in place for attending their nominated community clinic.

The NHSGGC Public Health Team advises that it is important for these groups to keep up to date with Covid-19 vaccines as levels of protection may have faded since the last dose. Emilia Crighton, Director of Public Health, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde explained:

“While we’re moving away from winter viruses and the weather is warming up, these groups continue to be vulnerable to Covid-19. If you’re eligible, we urge you to ensure that you don’t miss your appointment and that you top up your protection. The vaccine is the best approach to keep you safe.

“If your loved ones are in these groups, it is a good idea to check in with them to see if they have their appointment in place, or if they need to reschedule. It is also good to be aware of the community clinic location and to pre-arrange if support is needed for them to attend.”
