Public urged to nominate their local health heroes

  • 3 min read

People in Greater Glasgow and Clyde are being urged to nominate their local health heroes for NHSGGC’s Excellence Awards.

Each and every day, staff deliver outstanding patient care and go that extra mile to ensure our patients and their families receive the optimum in patient care. And we want you to tell us by nominating them in our Excellence Awards.

Last year we received a record number of nominations – more than 400 – which is testament to the high regard that the public have for our staff and staff have for colleagues.

This is a great opportunity for staff, patients and visitors to show their support for the tremendous hard work and dedication of our staff.

Chairman John Brown said: “People in our area have a great track record in nominating their local health heroes and we want this to continue this year with lots of new nominations for our staff.

“It might be the nurse who cared for your elderly mum while she was seriously ill, or the doctor who went the extra mile to get you the latest treatment, or even the midwife who gave you the strength to go on after 24 hours in labour. They are all special and the Excellence Awards are designed to recognise this.

“It’s not just about doctors and nurses either. It might be the porter who made you smile and helped you through a difficult moment, or a play assistant who entertained your child at the before her operation. These are the real people of the NHS and we want to hear why you think they are special.”

Nominate and help identify those who deserve recognition – all seven categories are open to the public:

  • Nursing Your chance to nominate a top nurse or top nursing team who displays the best qualities of patient care and the ethos of nursing
  • Global Citizenship Excellent examples of NHSGGC staff who have travelled overseas to provide healthcare and/or education to people in developing countries or in countries in crisis
  • Volunteer We have so many volunteers – please tell us your favourite
  • Better Care Tell us more about the excellent care you have received through any NHSGGC service
  • Better Health How have we helped you improve your health? Maybe it’s healthy eating, smoking cessation, physical activity, or activities aimed at improving mental health. Tell us more
  • Better Value Nominate projects which are saving time or resources
  • Better Workplace A new award for 2019 – This category recognises the often unseen work of our staff who are helping to make NHSGGC a Better place to work.

John added: “I visit teams and projects and hear about such fantastic innovations taking place across the organisation and these aren’t always nominated in our awards.

“So I want to create the opportunity to recognise the people that I see first-hand going above and beyond to ensure the highest standard of patient centred care.”
