Course overview
This e-Learning module provides a comprehensive overview of the new Duty of Candour legislation and a guide for implementation in Health and Social Care.
There are case examples and descriptions of harm to help clarify when the procedure should be used. There is also information on how to apologise and why that is important.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course delegates will be able to:
- Understand the purpose of the Duty of Candour legislation and the principles for implementation.
- Know when the Duty of Candour legislation should be applied.
- Provide patients and relatives with an appropriate apology that meets the Duty of Candour requirements.

Who should undertake this e-Learning module
All staff who could be involved in the Duty of Candour procedure, in particular senior clinical staff and managers of clinical services.

Pre-requisites
- There are no pre-requisites but there is a NHSGGC Duty of Candour policy that explains local arrangements for implementation of the legislation.
