Course Overview
This module will provide practical guidance on the Recruitment and Selection of staff to help NHSGGC manager’s to recruit fairly, lawfully and effectively. This module is also intended to give an understanding of the key stages in the recruitment process, offer best practice guidance and outline the interactions necessary with the NHS Scotland Recruitment System (Job Train).
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course you will be able to:
- provide an overview of the NHSGGC Recruitment and Selection Process to enable an understanding of how to recruit effectively and work with the Recruitment Service during each of the Recruitment and Selection stages
- understand Equality, Diversity and Inclusion; gain an understanding of the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion in recruitment. The importance of recruiting fairly, lawfully and effectively, during the key stages of the recruitment process, this includes recognising bias in recruitment and selection
- understand and adhere to the Disability Confident Job Interview Guarantee Scheme and know how to make reasonable adjustments to interview process where it is required
- prepare to recruit. Understand the Vacancy Approval Process and preparing the Job Description, Person Specification and Recruitment Advertisement
- attract the right applicants. How to create an effective job advertisement and attract the right applicants for your vacancy
- select the right person, practical tips and guidance for shortlisting, interviewing and evaluating applicants and providing feedback to job applicants
- understand the Candidate Offer and Pre Employment Compliance Checks. What pre-appointment checks are required, what happens when pre-appointment checks highlight concerns or discrepancies and how to prepare for your new starter

Who Should Attend
Any manager in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde who has responsibility for managing NHSGGC staff in their teams. This includes managers Acute (sectors and directorates), Mental Health, Community and Corporate services including the six Health and Social Care Partnerships .
Pre-requisites; Familiarity with the recruitment and selection processes and general information that can be found here and also the People Management Guide.
